So the last blog post I wrote was on the airplane to Hawaii; which ended up being the first of two times I would visit Hawaii in the matter of on you know three weeks. Because so much has happened in the last five months I will explain my adventures with pictures and mini stories,
Hawaii, Oahu April 2013
Jesse and I went to Oahu for a week. It was amazing! We ran a 5km race, surfed, went cage diving with sharks, and ate a lot of shave ice! We were also homeless on the North Shore for a whole day. It was fun.
Chilling on Waikiki beach – the best beach ever!
We zoomed every morning – this is me sporting my new race shirt from the 5 km we did on the North Shore
This is the view from an unknown beach Jesse and I slept on for a few hours before out running race started. We took a bus from Waikiki at 2 am to the north shore and got dropped off…good thing it was the right place
I did pretty good…
Right after our race we had booked shark diving. Not knowing where it was we through up a big hail mary and went to a marina. Thankfully the right one. Then we went cage diving with sharks It was AMAZING!

Hawaii, Maui May 2013
So, I started a new job the second week of May (at the same employer) but in my change over I had two weeks off. My whole family was going to Maui and originally I said I couldn’t go because of work. Then when I had some time off I had a crazy thought – why don’t I buy a plane ticket and go see them for a few days. So I did threw up a big YOLO and flew back to Hawaii literally 8 ish days after I just got back. It was aweeesommmeeeeee.
I paid for the West Jet upgrade and had a whole row to myself both ways. Baller status.
We went to a different beach every day and they were all awesome
We went snorkeling every day and I saw lots of fun animals. Including turtles and a sting ray. NBD.
I went zooming every day. This day I took Hannah hahaha
This was at big beach – where there are large strong waves. My father was concerned about our well being and stood and watched us carefully as if 4 adults may die haha
Killing it at big beach
We went whale watching one day. They told us we probably wont see whales because it was late in the season. Turned out we saw a ton and they were all breaching. slapping their tails, and singing so loud we heard it on the boat without a hydrophone. (Also my father is an amazing photographer)
London Ontario – Shinerama conference, May 2013
Like every year I was at Shine-Con as the Regional Director of AB/BC. It was amazing as always love my Shinerama community!
My AMAZING Friends! ALSO look I am not a total square. Sometimes I do consume alcoholic beverages.
Shine love <3
Saskatoon – work conference, May 2013
I had to go to Saskatoon for a work conference. I didn’t take any photos because I just am not a huge fan of Saskatoon. But I did have a great time with some of my co-workers! One night we went for a 3 hours walk along the river; that was nice!
Blackfoot Ultra 25km, May 2013
Like every year we ran the Blackfoot Ultra 25km. This year it poured rain the whole time and made the trail a mud bath.I love this race it’s grassroots, not filled with the “fancy fancy” and well done. I will keep doing it even though the course kicks my butt every year haha. AND this year we got kick ass pinnies!! Great SWAG!
Getting ready to roll BFU 2013
Race is done. That means Teagan eats Dilly Bars. A super perk of this race. I had two!
Edmonton Triathlon Festival, June 2013
I was not going to race this; but then I did. Leading up to this race I had seriously anxiety and worried about it a lot. I hadn’t raced triathlon in two years and was worried. I was training a lot for tri but wasn’t sure how it would shake out. The race was awesome. Extremely well run! I ended up two spots away from qualifying for worlds next year. (They are in Edmonton). So on September 30th I will apply for general registration (roll-down) and hope for a spot! Fingers crossed. Just before the race started when I was doing my shoulder warm ups my wetsuit sleeve split at the shoulder – sending me into mass panic. Then out of nowhere my father shows up (how convenient) he told me to go find some duct tape and he pieced my shoulder on my suit back together. I have a bizillion photos (thanks to Jesse) but here are two good ones!

Sinister 7, July 2013
As per usual Sinister 7 was amazing. My favorite Ultra of all time. I am thankful for the people that put this race on and all the athletes. It is an amazing community. This year we billeted with a man and his wife who are extremely involved with the race. They opened up their home to us which, made everyone so much easier to have a bed and kitchen. This year Jesse did leg 5 (and killed it) and I did 7. Our team was amazing and extremely supportive of one another – we were built of old friends and new friends and all gelled well; I am proud of everyone!
I follow the Facebook groups of most races in our area and I am amazed at how awesome the people of Sin 7 are. Last year when they were running out of water no one blew up on the Facebook and no harsh words were exchanged. This year at CDR I guess there was a few aid stations that were “not great” as per some runners and the Facebook posts were SO SO mean and people were saying shit I couldn’t believe. Ego trips, and slamming like I have never seen. That is not what running is about.
Me coming in to the finish! The man we stayed with snapped this awesome photo of me! Thank you!

Sylvan Lake 1-60-10, July 2013
I was suppose to do the Half Iron until my Athletic Therapist said no because my shoulder wasn’t holding the load of long bike rides. So I dropped the the 1-60-10. It was disappointing to do so and my race was BELOW average. Here are some snaps.
Swim start. The swim was super fun. I stopped and went back to help a girl that was struggling and asking for help. No one stopped. WTF is wrong with people
Heading out on the bike!
New wetsuit, July 2013
Since my old Aquashere bb was on it’s last legs I started to look around for a new wetsuit. Remember that time I didn’t have $500 to buy a new one. So I was a bit bummed. Until…..one day on Chainlove.com (best website ever) a 2XU R:2 was on sale for $160 from $450. I bought it on the spot! I couldn’t be happier with it; swimming in it makes a huge difference and I can tell the difference compared to my old one that was too big. However; putting this new puppy on is a two person job hah
Yeeee buddy my new wetsuit. Notice I am sweating from putting it on! haha
Flying, August 2013
My sisters friend is working on his pilots license. He took us for a ride in the sky around the city one morning. It was super super fun in the little plane. What was funner was when he would stall the plane and you feel like you’re dropping!
Toronto, August 2013
Went to Toronto with Jesse and my friend Steph to visit a bunch of our wonderful and close friends that live in the GTA. It was an amazing weekend filled with laughing, dancing, and adventuring. I am thankful to have amazing friends all over this country that will take us in and show us a good time. We went to a Jays game, Toronto FC game, and lots of other stuff.
Beautiful running trail in High Park Toronto. Right by my friends house!

Chickakoo 5 Peaks, August 2013
Ran the sport distance; right before the race went off some one squirted their carb gel on my legs (WHY ARE YOU EATING A GEL IT’S ONLY 7 KM!!!) which, later on meant chaffing for me. It sucked I had to walk for awhile with my legs open to stop the burning. I was trying to podium – that didnt happen becasue I walked for a solid 5-7 minutes but if I ran them I would have so consolation in my mind haha Overall it was fun but my time was not fun haha.

Coaching NAIT OOKS, August 2013
I am now the head coach for the NAIT Ooks XC running team. I am super excited about the year and have an amazing assistant coach to help me out! I am looking forward to another year!
Random photo of my legs. I have no XC photos for this year yet!
So folks those were the highlights of my summer so far. I am in complete denial that it is almost September and summer is coming to a close! Although I am looking forward to this fall (my birthday), enjoying some cooler training temps, and playing in the leaves with my puppy who I love very much! I might be running the Dedmonton 6 hour Ultra at the end of September but we will see how life goes.
Here is your quarterly fill of some Chocolate love….
Silliest puppy around!
